1) Eating out is not part of this, but I am going to refrain from Starbucks
2) Gas is not part of this
3) Normal scheduled monthly payments, not part of this (like Netflix, subscribtions, etc)
4) Services (like haircuts) are not part of this
5) Clothes/Shoes/Kitchen gadgets/electronics/toys/books/off the rack magazines ARE part of this
Make your own rules :) Since a couple people are going to join me, I will add the list of participants here.
My status: I really want the new Nora Roberts Book 2 of the 7 Trilogy. I read the first one over vacation (borrowed from my dad). This means I either have to 1) get a library card and go to the library OR 2) get my dad to buy it and steal it from him :)
I did hit the gym yesterday morning and this morning so I am feeling pretty good!

I commend you on this challenge, I'd love to participate sometime, but the month we go on family vacation is NOT a good time for me, yikes!
However, I'll have you know, I took a vow to NOT buy any new yarn this entire year because I have enough stash yarn and projects to finish that I don't NEED any. And I have STUCK WITH IT. Trust me, very hard to do!
Those look like good rules to me!
wow..that is great. PErhaps we will try this in September (pending hearing how yours goes!)
I have recently started trying to only get books from the library. If they don't have the book I'm looking for in the system, I try to remember to look for it used, either locally or online. I have a small book problem... probably 400 books or more, despite recent purgings...
I stopped going to starbucks when Janeane Garofalo referred to their BGH-filled milk as "pus milk" (from the mastitis that non-organic cows apparently have chronically)
It's funny though, becuz when I was recently forced into spending nearly 5 grand to get to France for a wedding, my impulse was not to buy less, but to go out and buy a brand new iPod and maybe a third bicycle. I think they call that anger buying. I haven't done it yet, but I'm very tempted.
wow, that was therapeutic! sorry for dumping...
My rules would have to include limited eating out. We'd cut back but in the last two months the dining out budget has been well over $600 a month. It's definitely not cheap to take a family of five out to dinner. So my rules will include only eating out once a week as a family.
Thanks for the clarifications...I was wondering if you had a 24 grace period or something to hurry up and get haircuts/pedicures/etc :-) Although I could live with DIY pedis for a month.
www.paperbackswap.com You have to pay to ship books, but technically you get one free just for listing 10 books.
And if you need another challenge when this one is done...

I'm going on vacation tomorrow - but I'll think about it for August. Vacation is NOT a good time to start something like this!
Oh, and as I read somewhere else, buying gift certs for yourself at the supermarket is BAD too!
That pus-milk - is that what I drink from the store? Ewww.
Em: I have the 2 of 7 - I will send to you!!!!!! FREE OF CHARGE!!!! (I need to get rid of some books.)
