Molly is at the point where we need to get her out of the crib. Aubrey was in a toddler bed at 18 months and I think Molly is ready now (she is 20 months). Currently each of the girls has their own bedroom.
Here are my different thought processes:
1) give Molly Aubrey's adjustable toddler bed and get Aubrey's room a double or queen sized bed so we could have company or just to have another big bed in the house
2) get bunk beds and move Molly into Aubrey's room and create a play room in the smaller bedroom
3) get Aubrey a regular twin bed and give Molly the little bed
OR...
What are your thoughts on sharing bedroms with a sibling? A big bed for Aubrey?

Jack Jack is going to be three in a few months, but he LOVES his crib (even though he climbs in and out anytime he wants to) and when we talk about a big boy bed he says he doesn't want one. He will get one anyway. But, I toyed with the idea of the boys sharing a room and decided this wouldn't work. Their sleep patterns are too different and Dash has too many toys that Jack Jack would ruin. So, we are just going to get JJ a twin bed for his birthday and put it in his room until he is ready to use it.
I feel you on the bed for company issue - however where will AG sleep if MM has her old bed? I say go for the Queen otherwise!
My vote is for:
1) give Molly Aubrey's adjustable toddler bed and get Aubrey's room a double or queen sized bed so we could have company or just to have another big bed in the house
This way the room can be used for company. The once in a while Aubrey asks you to sleep with her in bed and it happens in the middle of the night after a nightmare and you just break down and just going to stay in bed for 10 minutes but somehow you also get in a deep sleep.
Eric is perfectly content in his crib, but I know we're going to need to move him soon enough...I'm afraid of screwing up his awesome sleeping routine though!!
I would go with #1...if you're going to buy a new bed, sounds like you can justify the bigger bed. And when you have overnight guests, the girls get to have a 'sleepover' which I'm sure will excite them. And I just hear lots of stories of people who have better luck with kids in separate rooms...especially girls. You know how we can be :-)
And, whenever we get to the point of bringing baby #3 into the world, Evan and Eric will share a room. Until we get another house. I'm speaking very long term here, so don't call me and ask me when I'm due or start sending me real estate listings ;-)
And bunk beds and little kids scare me, but that could just be because I have boys and ceiling fans. Recipe for disaster.
Okay, why do you want Molly out of the crib already??? Should I be getting Arley out of the crib? I have two twin beds. Is he too little for a twin bed with a railing?
Sorry, this is YOUR blog. I have a girlfriend who has her two little girls sharing a bunk bed in their 4 bedroom house because they entertain each other until they're allowed to come out at 8 am. That's a plus.
I'm with you Erica--as long as my kid is happy in a crib, I'd like to keep him there!! The only reason we took Evan out when we did is because he screamed and cried and took 2 hours to fall asleep. Once we moved him to a bed? Out like a light (he was sleeping on a cot at daycare just fine, so there was a little trial run).
The twin bed/railing will be a matter of opinion. I would say he'll be fine, but you may want to consider the ease of getting in/out of the bed (he WILL get out and if you have to put him back in every time...that will get old). Alternative is to put the mattress (with or without boxspring) on the floor without a frame.
I don't know. John and I will have the same dilema at some point. We have a full sized bed in the guest room which should become Tommy's room when/if baby #2 comes along. Tommy is still in his crib and LOVES it. I'm pretty sure he could climb out if he really wanted to - but that hasn't happened, yet. I am all for keeping them contained as long as possible. My brother got Joey (his oldest) a trundle bed - that way there is room for 2 adults to sleep if there is company - and Joey has a place for people to sleepover as he gets older. I think eventually this will be in Olivia's room - and Joey and Mikey will get bunk beds...but that's a few years away. The girls rooms are such different sizes - Aubrey's is SO much bigger, so maybe eventually they'll be able to share a room. (Then again - probably not).
Look into a trundle bed...that might be the middle ground!
Aubrey moved to a big girl bed fairly early. She was out of her crib at daycare early and did great, plus we needed the crib at home for the baby in my belly and her room was all ready when we came back from a trip so we went from the trip right into the new room. It worked out great.
Molly is ready (or so I say) because 1) she has been sleeping out of a crib at daycare for a few months 2) she climbed OUT of the crib in the hotel room which showed her she could do it and has now started "trying" to do it at home and I do NOT want to deal with that.

I was talking to my mom tonight (who is going to the Carrie underwood/keith urban concert SO JEALOUS) - she says she has a trundel bed that POPS into a King size bed when the 2 twins come together at the same height... so it does EVERYTHING. Now I have to figure out the pricetag for everything vs just a queen... cause Ikea is cheap but doesn't have that trundel bed pop-up king thing.
I'm totally keeping Madeline in her crib as long as she doesn't start climbing out. Given the fact that she never sleeps anyway, any attempt for her to be able to leave the bed would just frustrate all of us even more I think.
I'm all for sharing a room. In fact, we're talking about moving the girls in together as soon as Mads is 2.
Of your 3 options, I say getting a queen is a great option. Although I like the idea of a trundle too. Hmm....
I guess Queen Trundle Bed is really good idea for her.This bed is very spacious and it helps a lot of people in decorating their room any way,can be customized they would like to but at the same time it saves space.So I think You should look up for Queen Trundle Bed.Good luck :)!!
