Snow

I love the first snow of the season. I feel like a little kid, giddy with the excitement and the beauty and the expectation that snow brings with it. Something fun or new always comes with that first snow - the way the world looks, the promise of hot chocolate or extra cuddles and books, or sleeping in and staying in comfy pajamas all day.

Maybe spending a lot of my childhood in the south contributes to the excitement, but it is palpable in me.

Now we live in the "country", we live in an area that has it's own name during the winter season and if the County has a 2 hour delay our "zone" is closed. We have a steep driveway. We have a very long driveway. And even though the driveway poses issues I still get excited when they call for snow.
Today we were to get about an inch of snow. We had 5 by the time we got home at 3pm, and it is still snowing.

I left my car at our friends house and Doug picked the girls and I up (he has the 4WD). And even in the 4WD, we almost ran into the ravine. We had to leave the car about a quarter of the way up the driveway and HIKE in the snow with the girls. Aubrey was a TROOPER! Even in NON-snow shoes she made it up and wanted to stay outside. It really was beautiful.

We got inside and the girls and I made a gingerbread house - or tried to anyway, we had soup and grilled cheese for dinner, we had a fire going, we read Christmas books and we had a drama free bedtime routine!

You can see our footsteps and this is not even HALF!

Wow, that's so beautiful.
We do NOT get that here in Texas (at least not in MY part). And if we were to get that, the entire town would shut down :-)
What a fun evening, I'm living vicariously through your blog.

WE don't live in that rural an area...but I too am from warmer climates (southern California). I love the snow (at least until March and then I crave warmth and sunshine).

Remember your first semster at collge - we got snow EVERY FRIDAY for a few weeks in a row! THE WHOLE Town shut down...unfortunately - I didn't have classes on Friday - so the cancelled classes did nothing for me....
You have ALWAYS been a snow freak! I LOVE IT
